Blogs & WikisBlogs - OverviewThe origin of the term weblog (usually shortened to 'blog') is usually credited to Jorn Barger, who used it to describe his list of interesting websites visited - Robot Wisdom. The universe of blogs ('blogosphere') is now much broader ranging from personal 'stream of consciousness' blogs to political, current affairs and business blogs. There is a specialised blog search function in Google and Technorati offers Blogger Central - a directory of the most popular blogs. Wikis - OverviewA Wiki is a collaborative, easy-to-script web site designed for multiple authors to work together on a subject. One of the best known wikis is Wikipedia. What distinguishes wikis from websites written using content management systems such as Drupal, Joomla! or Mambo is the range and sophistication of the collaboration, editing and roll-back features. Since a wiki is an approach to building a website rather than a specific technology, there are many ways to create one, but Ward Cunningham (the originator of wikis) lists a number of wiki engines on WardsWiki.
